Gossamer (the empty mirror of the sky)

Hand-blown glass, steel cabling, projector, video. 2024
400cm x630cm x 350cm

Gossamer (The Empty Mirror of the Sky) mobilises the sun’s passage in the sky through a composition of suspended glass lenses. The glass lenses mediate a time-lapse video of the sky, which compresses the course of the sun over a day into a boundless perpetual cycle - a dissolution of the passage of time. Inspired by sky-gazing meditations, the artwork evokes the flickering strands and spheres of light that appear in our vision during this practice. Fifteen hand-blown lenses hang in an elliptical helix form, casting an infinite scroll of radiant halos and graduating tones of light onto the floor and wall, with an original sound-piece composed on electric guitar, revolving in a continuous loop.
